A cataract is a clouding of the natural crystalline lens inside your eye. With time the clouding can become severe enough to impede your vision and the only treatment is cataract surgery. You eye doctor will monitor your cataract and will discuss surgery with you when it is time.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease of your optic nerve and is the second leading cause of blindness world wide. In most cases glaucoma is asymptomatic in the beginning so it is very important to have your eyes checked regularly to screen for glaucoma. Our team of doctors are well trained to diagnose, manage and treat glaucoma.

Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

AMD is a disease of your retina in an area known as the macula which is responsible for your central vision. Our doctors will constantly be screening for this and discuss your risk factors.

Diabetic eye disease

Diabetes can affect your eyes and in particular it can lead to changes of small blood vessels in your retina that can cause vision loss. It is important that you have your eyes checked regularly if you have diabetes and our doctors will carefully screen you for any of these changes.

Dry Eye Disease

One of the most common eye conditions, dry eye disease or syndrome affect the front of your eye and is due to loss of natural function of your tear film or the natural layer of liquid that coats and lubricates your eyes. Our doctors will work with you to inform your an help alleviate your symptoms with medicated and non medicated treatments including nutritional suggestions.

Retinal Diseases

Your retina is a thin delicate layer inside your eye that captures light to produce images in your brain. For this reason every eye exam at the Ottawa Eye Clinic includes a full retinal exam and in some cases a retinal scan or picture to help ensure the health of your retina.
